Purpose

Backflow prevention assembly tester and repairer certificate program is designed to certify that the individual has successfully completed training in a variety of topics, including federal, state and local regulations, waterborne pathogens, types of assemblies, installation requirements, testing procedures, troubleshooting and repair techniques.

Course

This 32 hour course presents guidelines for acceptable practices in testing, repair and annual inspection of backflow prevention assemblies and follows the AWWA's guidelines. The course is divided into two segments and concludes with a two-part exam. The certification is valid for two years and may be renewed by paying the appropriate fee and successfully passing a recertification exam. 3.2 CEUs will be awarded. Enrollment in the lab is limited to 8 per session.

Segment One :

Segment One is designed as the self-study portion of the course. Students are required to pre-order and complete the workbook prior to attending Segment Two.

Segment Two:

Segment Two is the classroom and wet lab portion of the course. Information contained in the workbook will be reviewed and students will participate in hands-on testing and repair of various backflow assemblies under wet conditions. Students will have an opportunity to participate in discussions, group activities, individual work, and hands-on activities. Testing procedures will be conducted under wet conditions.
